SOLACI-SBHCI 2019 | Women in Interventional Cardiology: A Reality Moving Forward in Strides

The presence of women in interventional cardiology is increasing. Year after year, talented female professionals from all over the world join our practices, contributing quality, knowledge, effort, and commitment to the improvement of people’s quality of life.

However, this integration progress does include obstacles and problems related to existing gender disparity and inequalities in the initial steps of a career in cardiology.

SOLACI and the Brazilian Society of Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology (SBHCI) are convinced that these issues must be reflected upon, and that such consideration is a pivotal step towards a more equitable professional environment. In consequence, the upcoming SOLACI-SBHCI 2019 Congress will feature discussion panels on the main issues faced by women for their career development.

These sessions will feature the presence of Dr. Carla Agatiello, Head of the Interventional Women in Latin American Program (Grupo MIL), a SOLACI initiative aimed at promoting interaction and collaboration among female interventional cardiologists in our region. World-renowned international female interventional cardiologists such as Dr. Roxana Mehran, Dr. Cindy Grines, and Dr. Viviana de Mello Guzzo Lemke will also take part in the aforementioned activities.

Additionally, Dr. Mehran is the Head of the Women as One initiative, a program that seeks to foster gender equality in healthcare, particularly in interventional cardiology.
