The aim of this study was to evaluate Coronary angiography by multislice CT compared with standard therapy in patients at low or moderate risk with suggestive symptoms of coronary artery disease. 2073 patients were included in each branch with a mean follow up of 1.7 years. CT significantly increased the certainty of the diagnosis of angina due to obstructive coronary disease compared with standard management (RR = 1.79, CI 95% 1.62 to 1.96, p <0.001).
The revascularization rate was not statistically significant but showed a tendency to be more frequent in the CT branch (11.2% versus 9.7%; p = 0.061). The clinical end point of death and infarction was similar between the two branches (1.3% versus 2.0%; p = 0.053).
Conclusion
In symptomatic patients by angina and with low or moderate risk the Coronary angiography by multislice CT increases the certainty of the diagnosis of coronary disease.
