This randomized study included 400 patients; 267 were treated with EVOQUE valve and 133 with optimal medical treatment (OMT).
After one-year follow-up, there were no differences in mortality between these groups (12.6% for EVOQUE patients vs 15.6% for OMT patients). However, the group treated with the valve showed significantly improved functional class and 6-minute walk test, and reduced new hospitalization for cardiac failure. Also, tricuspid reduction was maintained.
Authors concluded that EVOQUE resulted superior to OMT as regards the primary outcome, pointing out improved patient quality of life and functional class.
