FFRangio: New Software Derives FFR Value from Angiography

Original Title: Image-based FFR during coronary catheterization.
Presenter: Mariano Pellicano.

Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is considered the gold standard to detect myocardial ischemia; however, due to its elevated cost, increased procedural time and potential complications associated to the guiding catheter, it is still underused.

The FFRangio is a new technology based of angiographic images that allows near real-time non-invasive estimation of FFR. The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic precision of FFRangio.

Based on 3 to 4 angiographic projections after administrating intracoronary nitroglycerine, with lower magnification than usual in order to avoid following the artery, a software reconstructs the coronary tree in 3D for the FFRangio, simulating flow and resistance, allowing the estimation of pressures in a few minutes, with good correlation with the invasive FFR. FFRangio holds great promise as a cost effective tool and should be validated by larger studies.
