Percutaneous coronary intervention improves angina related quality of life in AMI patients with multivessel disease. The COMPLETE study has shown patients receiving complete revascularization compared against culprit-only revascularization presented lower cardiovascular rate or AMI at 3-year followup. ACC featured a COMPLETE subanalysis assessing angina related quality of life.
It included 4041 patients, mean age 62, randomized to culprit only revascularization vs. complete revascularization. Primary end point was angina frequency measured with a questionnaire.
This subanalysis showed significant reduction of angina frequency in the complete revascularization group vs. the culprit-only revascularization group. Additionally, researchers observed improved patient-reported health status in the revascularization group.
There was a benefit in patients receiving complete revascularization who presented non-culprit lesions with > 80% stenosis.
Conclusion
AMI patients randomized to complete revascularization showed significant reduction in symptom frequency at 3 years.
