SOLACI’s Year

2021 was filled with challenges for SOLACI. Many of the initiatives we started planning in 2020 saw the light and became a reality that strengthens our society’s reach and mission.

And not just that: we have also stepped up our efforts to expand and develop our traditional institutional activities always with the intent to add value and contribute to the development of interventional cardiology in our region.

This is why we would like to share with you everything we have done this year.

 SOLACI-CACI 2021

2021 was the year we reunited. After 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic stopped us from holding our traditional annual meeting, we set out to organize a 5-day virtual meeting with ample coverage of the main topics in the field for an audience of +5000 preregistered professionals, 50 international guests, and 150 Latin American faculty members.

Webinars

We also promoted a big number of educational webinars across the year on key cardiovascular intervention topics.

▶ SOLACI Research

Our research activities are now a reality. We have launched two research registries and published the first Latin American TAVR vs SAVR Guidelines together with the Interamerican Society of Cardiology (SIAC).

▶ SOLACI Sessions

Our main regional integration area carried out 3 regional sessions and numerous virtual events. In addition, during these events, we held 3 pro bono cases as part of our SOL SOLACI scheme.

▶ ProEducar

SOLACI’S educational area held the 11th Fellows Course during SOLACI-CACI 2021 and also published a series of 3 on demand educational seminars delivered by reputed professionals of the region.

On the other hand, a new Educational Newsletter on percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale was published.

▶ MIL Group

The Group of Latin American Interventional Cardiologist Women carried out 5 virtual events during the year offering tools and opening doors to all women in the region interested in developing as interventional cardiologists. In addition, they established a network and made strategic alliances with other groups such as Women as One (WAO) and The Group of Women Interventionists (MINT).

▶ New areas

During this year, we created the SOLACI Congenital Heart Disease Department, to bring together all experts in this subspecialty and foster knowledge exchange among peers.

This department conducted an educational webinar on the PULSTA valve and worked at the Pediatrics Latin American Congress, held during SOLACI-CACI 2021.

Online Case Discussion and Scientific Articles

We periodically publish scientific updates and the main innovations from the most relevant international meetings (TCT, ACC, AHA, ESC, EuroPCR) to our website.

Also, from SOLACI Peripheral and the Fellow’s Corner we encourage peer discussion by publishing multiple case studies online.

Nurses and Technicians

Together with ACETIA, SOLACI’s chapter on Nurses and Technicians had its traditional congress during SOLACI-CACI 2021 and also published their Hemodynamics and Interventional Cardiology Procedures Handbook 2021, which can be accessed free of charge.
