Sorrow for the Loss of Dr. Sousa

On behalf of the Latin American Society of Interventional Cardiology (SOLACI), We extend our deepest condolences for the departure of our esteemed professor Doctor José Eduardo Morais Rego Sousa, renowned hemodynamist and interventional cardiologist, former Director of the Institute of Cardiology Dante Pazzanese, the Brazilian Society of Interventional Cardiology (SBHCI) and a pillar in the creation of our society, which he successfully chaired between 1996 and 1998.

Doctor Sousa is known worldwide for diverse outstanding medical innovations, such as the first stenting experiences with conventional stents in humans, a technique he would later perfect with the use of drug eluting stents.

From SOLACI we join his family and friends in this time of grief, as well as several generations of disciples who learnt this cardiology subspecialty under his wing, following the rigorous example of our unforgettable Doctor Eduardo. May he rest in peace.
