Relive SOLACI’s participation in the V International Congress of Clinical and Interventional Cardiology in the Dominican Republic

The Latin American Society of Interventional Cardiology actively participated in the “V International Congress of Clinical and Interventional Cardiology”, organized by the Asociación Dominicana de Cardiología Intervencionista in the Dominican Republic, an event held with the endorsement and institutional support of SOLACI.

The event took place on April 11, 2026, at the Convention Center of the Hodelpa Gran Almirante Hotel in Santiago, Dominican Republic.

SOLACI was represented by Dr. Marcelo Halac (ARG) and Dr. Omar Santaera (ARG), who participated as international faculty members, sharing their expertise and perspectives on the main challenges and advances in interventional cardiology in Latin America.

During his presentation, Dr. Marcelo Halac addressed the development and relevance of the Latin American registries promoted by SOLACI, highlighting their value as essential tools for generating regional evidence, understanding real-world clinical practice, and improving quality of care in interventional cardiology. He also presented the progress of multicenter registries on coronary bifurcation lesions and peripheral vascular disease, which currently include thousands of patients from multiple countries and centers across the region, consolidating themselves as strategic platforms for collaborative research and the development of guidelines adapted to the Latin American reality.

Meanwhile, Dr. Santaera delivered the lecture “Current Status of Percutaneous Coronary and Structural Intervention in Latin America”, in which he analyzed the regional scenario compared with Europe and the United States. During his presentation, he highlighted the existing gaps in access to coronary and structural procedures, such as angioplasty, TAVI, and left atrial appendage closure, as well as the need to strengthen continuous education, professional certification, referral centers, and regional registry systems in order to reduce cardiovascular mortality and expand access to high-complexity therapies throughout Latin America.

SOLACI’s participation in this important scientific meeting reaffirms the society’s commitment to continuing medical education, collaborative research, and the strengthening of interventional cardiology throughout the Latin American region.
