Since all the studies available in the literature were conducted in North America or Europe, the results of percutaneous aortic valve replacement in Asia are unknown. We included 253 patients with severe aortic stenosis who received TAVI at 14 sites in Asia (Edwards Sapiens: 140 patients; Medtronic Core Valve: 113 patients). The success rate was 97% with a mortality rate of 3%, 4% for vascular complications, 1.6% for strokes and 9% for need to implant a pacemaker. There were no differences between the two valves, with the exception of the need for a pacemaker (Edwards 0.9% versus Core Valve 15.7%, p<0.001). 

Conclusion: The first experience with TAVI suggests that it is effective and safe in the Asian population.
