GARY: German Aortic Valve Registry.

Presentation Summary: The German Aortic Stenosis Registry collected data from German centers. 13,860 patients who were undergoing valve replacement surgery or percutaneous valve implant in 2011 were included. As recommended in the European Cardiovascular Guidelines, this national registry suggests that percutaneous implant represents the dominant treatment of this disease, especially in high-risk patients. In high-risk patients, the in-hospital death rate was similar for both techniques (surgical and percutaneous). The mortality rate observed with percutaneous implant was similar to that observed in clinical studies.

Review: This incredible effort of a nation to collate the data of almost all the patients undergoing invasive treatment due to aortic stenosis allows us to observe the large adoption of percutaneous technique in Germany. For July 2012, percutaneous implantation rate of all patients with aortic stenosis was 23%.
